Ronnie Vannucci, The Killers. Modern Drummer cover shoot. February 2013

This shot is one of those images that I didn't realize was as good as it was but that my amazing editor Scott plucked out of my edit and ran with. I love the shot. The rim lighting around Ronnie's head was done with a remote strobe I set up back there. As I moved around I couldn't tell if I was going to get completely flared out or get what I was aiming for. Between Ronnie moving as he was playing and me moving around and trying different angles there were a lot of variables. They really came together in this image. Masahiro Morimoto Iron chef cooks some comfort food at Canvas

Two lights here, one off to the right and behind him Gobo'd for the rim lighting and separation, another off to the left and in front with a diffusion filter for main light and fill.  The background was the restaurant's signature wallpaper which was a tiny strip of wall covering but just enough to fill the frame. Very happy with the way this turned out. Shot for the Pulse Section of The New York Post on August 22nd. It made the inside cover of the section when it ran.

Kelcey Kintner and The French Way of parenting in today's NY Post

This was a story about the French method of parenting which supposedly is much more laisez-faire than in America. Kelcey Kintner of  mamabirddiaries.com is quoted as not subscribing to the ways of Froggie mom's and dads. For the portrait I was really looking for an eye of the hurricane feel and I think I got a pretty funny and sweet result with these shots. The pix were published in the print edition in the jump but didn't get into the online edition. See the whole shoot here.

Gimme some room to eat! Pulse cover story in today's New York Post

This was a bit of a harrowing shoot. The restaurant was packed and it was hard to find a table to sit the models at that would give me the head-on angle I needed for this shot. I had a remote triggered flash set up to the left of frame for hair light, background and separation and an on camera soft box for fill. We got kicked out of two different table setups because the people eating near us complained about the strobes going off.
