Alfie Boe performs at Le Poisson Rouge on May 7th, 2012

Alfie Boe's story is pretty amazing. He auditioned for Les Miserables after someone at the car repair shop where he worked suggested he go because he overheard him singing at work....He landed the role of Jean Valjean and the rest as they say is history. He has a spectacular voice and the ladies seem to like him ALOT. He made me think of a singing Chuck Norris.

  1. Actually, the guy at the car repair shop suggested he go to the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company in London (although I don't think Alfie mentioned the name in interview before he performed that night). He performed with them for awhile then went to the Royal College of Music, followed by a short time in a program at the Royal Opera House in London. His bio is here: http://www.alfieboeuk.com/biography

And, yes, we ladies do like him a lot. He's got a magnificent voice.

  3. I thought I was quoting what he said on stage which was that the guy told him they were having auditions for Les Miserables and that he should go try out.

  4. Alfie mentioned that it had been suggested he try out for Les Mis in NY -- I think after La Boheme -- but was told he wasn't right for the job. I remember thinking that the guy who said that must be kicking himself now.:D Alfie got into the 25th Anniversary concert of Les Mis when Michael Ball recommended him to Cameron Mackintosh.

The pictures are great but it wasn't Les Mis it was the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in London and it wasn't a repair shop, it was the TVR sports car factory. Anyway, he's singing now and like KEC said we DO like him A LOT and can't wait for him to be back here in the US. The man oozes talent and sex appeal and he's also one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He's going to be big here.

  7. Sorry, 'fraid Les Mis was about 20 years later, and he was asked to audition by Cam Mackintosh himself.

No. MIchael Ball, who had sung with Alfie in an opera (I think it was the Pearl Fishers) suggested to Cameron MacKintosh that he audition Alfie for the 25h Anniversary Concert of Les Mis. Ball has played Marius in one of the West End productions of LM.
Alfie sang for both MacKintosh and composer, Claude Michel Schonberg and got taken on. The rest is history....
